October 08, 2021
On September 21, 2021, the 6th meeting of the Supervising Committee of the Arctic Council project “Phase-out of Fluorinated Greenhouse Gases and Ozone-Depleting Substances at Fish and Seafood Processing Enterprises of the Murmansk Oblast (Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation). Phase 2” was held.
ICSTI is the Implementing Agency for this international project, one of the largest for the Arctic Council.
The meeting was held in an online format with the participation of representatives of the Arctic Council, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation, the Government of the Murmansk Region, Nefco (the Fund Manager through which the grant for the Project is provided), and ICSTI.
ICSTI reported on the successful work over the past six months, including procurement of tools and equipment, trips to Murmansk for working meetings with recipients of technical assistance, public awareness on the project, etc. In particular, the tools for environmentally safe installation and service of refrigeration systems have been provided to the recipients; contracts have been signed and work has begun on the conversion of refrigeration equipment, the establishment of a Training center on the basis of the Murmansk State Technical University has started, a new Project website has been developed.
The Project Supervising Committee highly appreciated the ICSTI’s work, expressed confidence in its successful continuation and the achievement of all the stated goals of the Project.
The experience gained in the Murmansk Region is of particular importance due to the fact that the Russian Federation (among other countries that have ratified the Kigali Amendment) has started the practical implementation of a program for the regulation of fluorinated greenhouse gases.
