2-day workshop “Training of production engineers for enterprises engaged in production of PU preinsulated pipes”

On October 21–22, 2-day workshop “Training of production engineers for enterprises engaged in production of PU preinsulated pipes” was held in Moscow and Peresvet, Moscow region, as part of implementation of UNIDO/GEF-MNRE Project on ODS phase-out in the Russian Federation. The workshop was organized by the Union of Eco-Friendly PU Product Manufacturers and Consumers with support of the Association of Preinsulated Pipe Manufacturers and Consumers.

2-day workshop “Training of production engineers for enterprises engaged in production of PU preinsulated pipes”

27 specialists from Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, Vladimir, Magnitogorsk, Novocheboksarsk, Omsk, Tver (Russian Federation), Minsk (Republic of Belarus), and People’s Republic of China attended the event. The list of participants includes heads and product engineers of enterprises in the foam sector, sectoral associations and unions as well as experts of the International Centre for Scientific and Technical Information.

The activities of Day 1 of the workshop were organized in Moscow and dedicated to technical and institutional aspects of the sector conversion to ozone-safe technologies. Participating specialists were trained under study guide “Training programme for production engineers at enterprises engaged in production of PU preinsulated pipes” developed as part of the Project implementation.

2-day workshop “Training of production engineers for enterprises engaged in production of PU preinsulated pipes”

Theoretical classes covered the following:

  • Legislation regulating the ozone layer protection. Ozone-depleting substance phase-out in the Russian foam sector;
  • Nature of utilization of new technologies in production of preinsulated pipes (pentane, methyl formate, hydrofluoroolefins, water, methylal, freons 365/227, and other PU foaming agents);
  • Core duties of production engineers at PU preinsulated pipe production;
  • Overview of dosing machines, selection of dosing machine characteristics;
  • Selection of raw materials for preinsulated pipe insulation. Incoming control of raw materials and determination of technological sample;
  • PU preinsulated pipe production procedures. Ground and buried preinsulated pipes. Compliance with regulatory documents. Core technological operations in preinsulated pipe production: receipt and storage of raw and base materials, manufacture of polyethylene jacket, preparation of a metal pipe, assembly and pre-heating of the pipe-in-pipe construction;
  • Specifics of operations with pipes of various diameter. Pipe filling methods, basic technical operations. Calculation of consumption rate of raw material and materials in production of preinsulated pipes. Filling machine calibration procedure, basic operations;
  • Tests. Test validation and error correction.
2-day workshop “Training of production engineers for enterprises engaged in production of PU preinsulated pipes”

Day 2 of the workshop took place in Peresvet, Moscow region, at a training facility of LLC Pipe-Insulation Plant (Project beneficiary).

Practical classes covered the following:

  • Safety precautions in the preinsulated pipe production shop. Safety precautions in operation of filling machines and PU chemical components. Excursion at the facilities of the Pipe Insulation Plant;
  • Filling machines. Background data input to the machine. Preparation of pipes and shaped objects for filling (pre-filling technological procedure). Setting and calibration of a filling machine. Sack samples;
  • Pipe and shaped object filling. Specifics of the filling procedure for various component systems. Foam hold time under flanges;
  • End product quality control methods;
  • Technological process shift analysis on the basis of the end product quality. Storage of end products. Questions and answers.
