UNIDO/GEF/MNRE Project “Phase out of HCFCs and Promotion of HFC-Free Energy Efficient Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Systems in the Russian Federation Through Technology Transfer” was developed by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) upon the initiative of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation (MNRE). The Global Environment Facility (GEF) furnishes a financial assistance to implement the Project.
UNIDO was organized in 1966 and since 1985 it has been a specialized agency in the UN system, authorized to promote sustainable industrial development of developing countries and countries with economies in transition. Read more
Established in October 1991 as a pilot project of the World Bank, GEF was called to protect the global environment and promote environmental sustainable development. In 1994 GEF officially moved out of the World Bank structure and became a permanent independent organization. Today it is a financial mechanism for implementation of several international conventions. As part of implementation of the Montreal Protocol, GEF provides financing to projects on phase out of ODS.
